Commenting on the development, the Head Teacher for Kambewe Primary School expressed his excitement for choosing the school he is heading over many schools in the area of T/A Chadza.
He emphasized his commitment to working hand in hand with the school committee, Traditional Leaders and community members surrounding the school to ensure protection of trees from goats and cattle that graze around the school area.
“I will make sure the trees are well taken care of so that next year, when we plant trees again, it will be in a different location not the same place where we planted today”. He stressed.
Among other participating organisations were Save the Children Malawi, Emerging Public Leaders of Malawi and Eldridge Finance Limited.
One of the Fellows from Emerging Public Leaders of Malawi (EPL) Mayamiko Kenamu said one of the organization’s initiatives is community service.
She highlighted that participation in the tree-planting exercise was aimed at empowering community members to take charge of pressing local issues, including restoring the environment to where it was before.
Kenamu further expressed EPL’s commitment to collaborate with NYNCC and other stakeholders on future initiatives.
In his remarks, William Luhanga from Save the Children said their organization will continue working with different organizations working on environmental sustainability and addressing climate change.
“As Save the Children, we are committed to work with different organizations that complement various government initiatives, including those focusing on environmental sustainability, which is one of the key enablers of Malawi’s Vision 2063. We will continue to support these efforts, as addressing climate issues requires concerted action from all sectors and structures”, He concluded.
